Current advice for EU citizens

The UK left the EU on 31 January, 2020 and the status of non-UK nationals is unclear and to be determined. Lambeth Council wrote to all households in mid-January 2020 to advise as follows:

Apply for settlement or pre-settlement status: EU, EEA or Swiss citizens can apply at: www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families. Gaining settled status allows EU citizens to remain in Lambeth with the same benefits as currently enjoyed. The latest data Lambeth had showed 26,540 applications from Lambeth residents by the end of September 2019 – 8th highest in London – 11th in the UK. Citizens under the age of 18 will also need to have an application completed for them.

For support and guidance:  e.g. to check your eligibility, find advice, read information on settled status in your own language or join information events, visit the EU Londoners Hub: https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/eu-londonershub.

For verification assistance in completing an application: make an appointment for Lambeth Council staff to verify your identity, at the Town Hall in Brixton:

To ensure this process is as smooth as possible, Lambeth Council has waived the fee for such checks for Lambeth residents so that everyone is able to use it as swiftly and easily as possible.

Lambeth was the borough in the country that voted most heavily for Remain (79%). To find out what else Lambeth Council is doing to respond to Brexit and for more information on your rights as an EU citizen, please go to the Lambeth website https://www.lambeth.gov.uk/preparing-for-brexit.
