As you will be aware, the Thames Water mains works have been continuing - the works are considered to be essential works and so will continue during lockdown, albeit at a slower pace due to social distancing. The works will now not include the replacement of the last 200m of mains pipes from Chatsworth Way to Robson Road. Live waste water and other pipes have been found in close proximity to the water main, and so it is too difficult to replace the mains pipe. The implications for our area of this pipework not being replaced during the current works are unknown. Monitoring units will be installed to cover the entire length of the pipe. The whole scheme is now set to continue until mid-August 2020 rather than end in June, and Thames Water have provided the following further information:
- The current works in Norwood Road (Phase 2Av) between Lancaster Avenue and Chatsworth Way are scheduled to continue to 30 June 2020. Four-way temporary lights to control traffic have been installed, and these have increased traffic delays from those recently A signaled crossing point has also been installed.
- Robson Road at the junction with Norwood Road remains the same: no westbound traffic and closed bus stops (Stops Q and R) until August 2020
- New works at the Tulse Hill gyratory: the final stage of the mains replacement project which will attach 630 metres of new pipe to the water main and run until 30 June. The works will require engineers to carry out trench excavations, install pressure management instruments, make the new connection into the existing pipework, and then disinfect, reinstate and commission the new pipework. This phase has required the closure of Perran Road, a reduction in southbound traffic lanes to one lane and the closure the northbound bus stop (so buses will divert around the gyratory)
These site maps have been provided by Thames Water:
We have been particularly pressing Thames Water to reduce the impact on pedestrians (by not closing crossing points or pavements) and the revised plans should mean that all Norwood Road pavements and bus stops remain open, except the following bus stops until the end of June 2020:
- Tulse Hill Station (Stop F) (outside Di Jerk Shark).
- Lancaster Avenue (Stop K) (outside M and M fried chicken).
- Lancaster Avenue (Stop L) (outside KFC).
The planned works for July and August are unknown. Thames Water are writing to all local residents on the above, and this letter can be read here.
