March Cycle Hangar Installations

cycle hangar

We have installed 33 cycle hangars across the borough this month

This brings us to a total of 303 hangars in Lambeth which is the equivalent of over 1,800 spaces! View a map of the new hangar locations.

Once installed, the hangars are managed by Cyclehoop. If you'd like to check the availability of hangars in your area and apply for a space or request to be added to the waitlist, please visit the Cyclehoop website.

Demand across the borough is extremely high and we are installing as many hangars as we have the capacity to do so. If you'd like to recommend a new location please register your interest as this helps us gauge demand when we come to reviewing potential new locations.

If you have any further questions about on street cycle hangars, please email us at cycleparking@lambeth.gov.uk

Spring Dr Bike Sessions

Get a FREE bike service at one of our Dr Bike sessions

By the end of March, we will have run 28 Dr Bike sessions this year and serviced over 400 bikes!

Dr Bike is a free service and will look at your brakes, tyres, gears and the general road-worthiness of your bike.

The Dr Bike mechanics will fix problems with your bike there and then if possible. For bigger jobs they will advise you on what is wrong so you can take your bicycle to a bike shop and explain the problem.

We have Dr Bike sessions taking place into June. To view the full list of locations please visit our events page.

Recommencing School Streets

Lambeth’s School Streets have recommenced at 21 primary schools

Following the recent reopening of schools in the borough, which have been suspended since December due to the most recent lockdown, Lambeth’s School Streets have recommenced at 21 primary schools.

School Streets are timed closures on streets around schools in the borough to make the journey to school safer for pupils. School Streets is a scheme set up by the council to restrict vehicle access to streets around schools in the borough during pick up and drop off times. This will help to reduce road danger, tackle congestion and improve air quality, creating safer and more pleasant environments outside of schools in the borough, while helping to facilitate walking, scooting and cycling. School Streets will also create space to aid social distancing, while COVID-19 guidelines remain in place.

For a full list of locations, please visit the Lambeth website.

If you have any further questions about School Streets, please email us at schoolstreets@lambeth.gov.uk

Electric Vehicle Charge Point Installations

ev charging point article

We are on track to meet our EV charge point commitment!

In 2016 road transport in Lambeth was responsible for 30% of the borough’s total carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) and 60% of the boroughs total nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). Refuelling an EV can take several hours so it is often done while the vehicle is parked. This refuelling time may reduce to just minutes in the future. Until it does, Lambeth has a role in providing chargepoints so that EVs are a viable option for people to use now. In our Transport Strategy we have committed to install a minimum of 200 chargepoints by 2022 and we are on track to meet that target.

Installation activity over the last several years is as follows:

  • 2018/19 - 83 chargepoints.
  • 2019/20 - 70 chargepoints.
  • 2020/21 - 71 Siemens 5.5kW charge points due to be installed by the end of April.
